Express Entry: Canada Conducts Its Inaugural Draw for Transportation Professions

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted its second Express Entry draw of the week.

On September 20, IRCC extended invitations to 1,000 candidates in the transportation sector to submit applications for permanent residence. The threshold Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) stood at 435.

Additionally, on September 19, IRCC issued invitations to 3,200 candidates in an all-program draw, with a minimum CRS score requirement of 531.

Express Entry Draw for Transportation Professions

Yesterday’s draw marked a significant milestone, as it was the inaugural category-based selection draw for Express Entry candidates possessing work experience in the transportation industry. The decision to target transport occupations is a direct response to the pressing labor shortage within this sector.

This summer witnessed an increased frequency of Express Entry draws compared to previous years, primarily due to the introduction of category-based selection rounds. However, until this week, no draws had occurred since August 15, when 4,300 candidates received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in an all-program draw. The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has not provided an explanation for the pause in draw activities.
