International students in Canada can now work up to 24 hours per week off-campus while their classes are in session. This new cap only applies to work during the academic term, and students can still work unlimited hours on-campus or off-campus during scheduled breaks between terms when classes are not in session.
In addition, a significant change announced recently requires international students to apply for a new study permit if they plan to transfer to a different designated learning institution (DLI). Previously, students could switch schools under the same study permit by simply updating their information with IRCC. Now, a new study permit must be applied for—and in some cases approved—before transferring to a different institution.
